Vancouver Botox Therapeutic Lower Mainland

Botox can be an effective therapeutic migraine headache treatment and hyperhidrosis treatment (excessive sweating). Medical Botox treatments are often covered by Extended Health benefit plans when prescribed by a medical doctor to treat these conditions.

Botox Migraine Prevention

Botox has been found to be an effective migraine headache prevention. By relaxing the muscles in the face, neck and head, Botox significantly reduces migraine frequency, migraine severity, acute medication usage and associated vomiting in approximately 50% of sufferers. Botox interrupts signals to nerves that cause muscle contractions that can trigger the erratic nerve firing and blood vessel spasms of migraine headaches. After Botox therapeutic injection, migraine attacks can be reduced for approximately 3 months.

How is Botox for Migraine Administered?

Botox treatments for migraines take minutes. Specific trigger points and migraine sites are injected directly. The doctor designs an individualized injecting plan that involves tiny injections to the scalp, neck and face areas. The benefits of one treatment can last for several months. Most often patients return directly to work or normal activity immediately following Botox treatment. The Botox starts to work 3 to 4 days after the procedure and migraines become less frequent or severe. It is important to choose an experienced physician, such as Dr Gidon Frame at the Anti-Aging Medical & Laser Clinic, to carefully select the appropriate points and administer the Botox safely and effectively.

Botox Hyperhidrosis Prevention

Secondary Hyperhidrosis is caused by an underlying condition such as chronic infection, hyperthyroidism, menopause, obesity, psychiatric disorders and some types of cancer or tuberculosis. Secondary Hyperhidrosis is less frequent than primary and is not localized. In a few minutes with a few tiny injections, trained medical doctors can provide relief for an average of 7 months.

Researchers have discovered that Botox injections effectively treat hyperhidrosis by blocking the nerves that trigger the sweat glands. Botox was approved for the treatment of axillary hyperhydrosis (excessive underarm perspiration) in 2001.

How is Botox for Hyperhidrosis Administered?

Botox treatments for hyperhidrosis work by blocking the message from the nerve to the sweat gland so that perspiration is greatly reduced, or stopped, in the area that it is injected. A "Starch / Iodine Test" is usually done prior to the Botox® treatment. This outlines the area where the sweat glands are the most active, and the Botox is then injected into this area.

Insurance Coverage for Therapeutic Botox

Botox injections used for therapeutic purposes, such as migraine prevention and hyperhidrosis, are often an insured medical benefit. Most extended medical insurance plans in Canada cover the cost of the Botox therapeutic medication (non-cosmetic). Anti-Aging Medical & Laser Clinic will charge you an extra fee for the actual administration of the Botox by Dr Frame.
