IPL IPL: Intense Pulsed Light, broad-spectrum light is applied to the surface of the skin. The pulses of light produced by IPL equipment are short in duration, so discomfort to non-targeted skin is neglible and irritation to targeted skin is minimized treatments improve the appearance of photo aged skin, remove age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigments, and redness caused by broken capillaries through a process called photorejuvenation. IPL photofacial technology can be used to help restore the skin's youthful appearance. Treatments generally target the face and hands, but can be applied to any area of the body.

the Quantum IPL, by Lumenis, the inventor or IPL.
IPL Treatments are gentle, and non-ablative Non-ablative treatments do not vapourize skin tissue, wherease ablative laser treatments use very intense laser bursts briefly directed at skin. This energy heats water within the skin surface, causing both the water in skin and skin tissue to vapourize , use broad spectrum light to treat the face, chest, neck and hands, virtually anywhere that sun damage shows.
How IPL Treatments Work
IPL photorejuvination targets pigment. The targeted area is heated by the IPL system, causing damage only to the cells in the pigmented region or veins, resulting in a reduction of their visibility on the skin's surface. Typically, four to six treatments are administered to the face, chest, neck or hands, spaced at three week intervals. Broad spectrum light in the visible and near infrared range, is transmitted through a small, smooth, flat glass handpiece which is gently placed over the skin. As a sub-epidermal Sub-epidermal: below outermost layer of the skin's surface procedure, IPL skin treatments produce few side effects and require little or no recuperation time.
