Broken Capillaries
Overview
Broken Capillaries also known as spider veins or telangiectasia as the medical term, are tiny broken red veins. This skin condition is most commonly found in the nose and cheek area. When the walls of these tiny veins narrow and widen too quickly, they may tear, allowing blood to seep out and visibly mark the area of damage. If they break, they will not return to their normal condition.
What causes broken capillaries?
Individuals with dehydrated, dry and sensitive skin often have thinner tissue, which allows more trauma to the veins. Genes also play a part, with fair, thin-skinned people being more prone. Broken capillaries are most often caused by environmental factors such as:
– Sunburn
– Windburn
– Hormones
– Sun exposure
– Extreme temperature changes
– Trauma (i.e. squeezing pimples)
– Smoking & High alcohol consumption
– Constant pressure (i.e. wearing glasses)
