The elephant in the bedroom – erectile dysfunction, otherwise known as ED. Suddenly not being able to get an erection, maintain an erection, or ejaculate regularly are all symptoms of Erectile Dysfunction. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms it can be troublesome, and oftentimes negatively impact other areas of your life. If left untreated it can cause serious self-esteem issues, relationship troubles, and depression.

ED can be a result of many factors such as aging, relationship issues, excessive weight, alcohol use, tobacco use, substance use, depression, stress, fatigue, and sleep disorders. This is not an exhaustive list, but if the issue is not resolved by making lifestyle changes or finding a pattern in when and why it happens, it is best to see a doctor.

What causes ED?

While it’s a difficult topic for many men to discuss, ED isn’t uncommon. In fact, it’s the most common sexual problem for men. It’s estimated that nearly 50% of Canadian men over the age of 40 suffer from some level of erectile dysfunction. Making lifestyle changes can help improve ED, but there are some factors you’ll have to talk to a doctor about. A medical examination with a qualified professional can help you identify why you may be experiencing this condition. Your doctor can also answer any questions you may have and provide you with a personalized treatment plan.
