Breast Surgery Scars

What are breast surgery scars?

While modern breast augmentation, lifting, or reduction surgery has progressed extensively over the last few years, reaction to the breast surgery scars is dependent on body type, skin care, and surgical technique.

These scars may be in the armpit, around the nipple, or as an upside-down T from the nipple-areola down to the area below the breast. For most women, these scars heal well and are barely visible. If the scars are raised and keloidal, corticosteroid injections may be useful. If the scars are discoloured, fractional laser resurfacing may help.

What can be done?

Fraxel Laser stimulates collagen in and around the scar, smoothing and lightening the damaged tissue. You can see the results below in a stomach scar post a surgical tummy tuck.

  • Cortisone Injection:  These types of injections can help soften and then shrink hard scars. Keloids and hypertrophic scars often soften after intralesional steroid injections.
  • Venus Viva: An ablative, no downtime skin resurfacing treatment that also softens scarring.
