What is stomach fat (Love Handles, Muffin Top, Flanks)?
Stomach fat is an issue for great deal of the population. A paunchy tummy can appear after very little weight gain and after childbirth and can be resistant to dieting and exercise. Belly fat can come with aging, appearing as we approach menopause or andropause (Male menopause). Body contouring means removal of these small areas of fat. Love handles are the small pockets of fat you can grab at the side, just above your hip bones. The “muffin top” is the fat slightly further back around near the flanks.
Stomach fat or visceral fat is also the most dangerous type of fat to develop as it can lead to:
- Cardiovascular disease.
- Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
- Colorectal cancer.
- Sleep apnea.
- High blood pressure.
What can be done?
The easiest non-surgical option to get rid of stubborn stomach fat is CoolSculpting. Fat is pulled into the handpiece through a strong suction and is taken down to a freezing temperature without harming the skin. Results are seen after 3 months. Depending on the amount of fat to be reduced, a second treatment may be needed.
- Dietary and exercise changes
- Medical Consultation to look for hormonal changes or other causes
- Surgery: Liposuction, Liposcultpture
