What are surgical scars?
Surgical scars are extremely resistant to medical or surgical treatment. Often, when they are removed surgically, they recur with worse keloidal growths. These keloids are hard, rubbery, raised, thickened areas on the surgical scar.

What can be done?
Laser resurfacing such as the Fraxel Dual 1550 can soften the appearance of surgical scars, lightening the disoloration and smoothing the bumpiness. If a small area of keloid appears, corticosteroid injections sometimes help as well.
