Neuromodulators

Neuromodulation describes two things: part of a biological process and action or intervention that affects that process.  As a physiological process, neuromodulation is the regulation of neurons by neurotransmitters. As a therapeutic treatment, neuromodulation describes the electrical or chemical alteration of nerve activity. In skin aesthetics, neuromodulator injections are used to block nerve signals that control muscle contractions. Muscle contractions are partially responsible for the appearance of dynamic wrinkles – wrinkles that appear temporarily when we laugh, smile, purse our lips, wince or frown. When a targeted muscle is temporarily blocked  by a neuromodulator, the appearance of wrinkles is reduced.

Safety of neuromodulators

Neuromodulators injection treatments are safe, according to a recent study, when injected properly by an experienced aesthetic treatments doctor. The study – published in JAMA (the Journal of American Medical Association) – researched incidents of adverse effects from injectable neuromodulators, fillers and laser treatments. The conclusion: less than 1% of patients experienced adverse effects and these were mostly minor and transient.

Wrinkle Reduction with Neuromodulators

The FDA approved Botox for medical use in the 1980s and it received its first FDA approval for aesthetic use in 2002. Botox is an effective treatment for the temporary reduction of forehead wrinkles, frown lines (glabellar lines), and wrinkles around the eyes.  Botox injections are quick, usually taking less than 30 minutes, and are relatively painless. Botox treatments require little, if any, recuperation time and with the exception of possible minor bruising (in come cases), post-treatment recovery is negligible, causing no major disruptions to your normal routine. Therapeutic Neuromodulator Treatments

In addition to its cosmetic application, Botox is used as a medical therapy for the treatment of migraines, TMJ disorder (temporomandibular jaw disorder), and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). Sufferers of all three conditions can experience long term relief and improved quality of life. More about Botox therapeutic.
