Secret PRO vs HALO: Key Differences

Compare Secret PRO and HALO, including resurfacing methods, treatment targets, recovery considerations, skin tone, and scar planning.

Secret PRO and HALO are both used for skin resurfacing, but they are not the same kind of platform. HALO is a hybrid fractional laser that delivers two laser wavelengths in the same treatment zone. Secret PRO combines fractional CO₂ laser resurfacing with radiofrequency microneedling, giving clinicians two distinct ways to treat the skin within one system.

That difference matters when choosing between them. The clinic’s Secret PRO and HALO Hybrid Fractional Laser pages describe technologies that can both address texture, scars, sun damage and signs of aging, but they reach those goals differently.

The Main Difference Is the Energy

HALO uses two laser wavelengths. Sciton describes the system as combining a 1470 nm non-ablative wavelength with a 2940 nm ablative erbium wavelength in the same microscopic treatment zone. The non-ablative component heats deeper tissue, while the ablative component creates controlled surface channels.

Secret PRO takes another approach. Cutera describes it as a platform combining fractional CO₂ laser resurfacing with RF microneedling. The CO₂ component focuses on resurfacing, while the RF microneedling component places needles into the skin and delivers radiofrequency energy at selected depths.

So this is not simply one laser versus another. Secret PRO includes a laser plus separate RF microneedling, while HALO uses two laser wavelengths together.

What HALO Is Designed to Address

HALO sits within the clinic’s Laser Skin Resurfacing pathway. Its hybrid design allows the clinician to adjust how much ablative and non-ablative treatment is delivered.

HALO may be considered for concerns such as:

  • rough or uneven texture

  • fine lines

  • uneven tone

  • sun-related pigment changes

  • enlarged-looking pores

  • selected acne scars

A 2022 study comparing fractional CO₂ resurfacing with a hybrid 1470/2940 nm laser found that both improved fine lines, roughness and mottled pigmentation. CO₂ produced stronger improvement in that small study, while the hybrid treatment had faster healing and greater patient satisfaction.

What Secret PRO Adds

Secret PRO can use fractional CO₂ laser, RF microneedling, or both within a treatment strategy. That gives the platform a different kind of flexibility.

Fractional CO₂ creates microscopic columns of ablative injury and is used for concerns such as texture, scars and photoaging. RF microneedling works below the surface by combining needle penetration with radiofrequency heating.

For acne scars involving both surface irregularity and deeper dermal change, that combination may be useful to discuss. The clinic’s Acne Scars page lists both laser resurfacing and RF microneedling because scar shape and depth can require different approaches.

Which Is Better for Acne Scars?

Neither is automatically better for every scar.

Atrophic acne scars can include rolling, boxcar and ice-pick patterns. Some are superficial, while others extend deeper or are tethered. One device cannot correct every scar architecture in the same way.

Secret PRO may be useful when RF microneedling and fractional CO₂ are both relevant. HALO may fit when fractional resurfacing across tone and texture is a stronger priority.

The clinic also offers a dedicated RF Microneedling pathway, which can be considered independently of CO₂ resurfacing when appropriate.

What About Pigment and Skin Tone?

Skin tone and pigment history deserve careful assessment before either treatment.

Fractional laser resurfacing can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly in skin prone to pigment change. CO₂ resurfacing and hybrid laser treatment differ in wavelength, tissue effect and intensity, so one approach should not be assumed suitable for every skin type.

RF microneedling does not rely on melanin as its target, which can make it useful in some plans where pigment risk is a concern. That does not remove the possibility of inflammation or post-inflammatory pigment change.

How Does Recovery Compare?

There is no single downtime number for either platform.

With Secret PRO, recovery depends on whether treatment uses RF microneedling, fractional CO₂, or both. Temporary redness, swelling, sensitivity, crusting or peeling can occur depending on intensity.

HALO can also produce redness, swelling, warmth and a rough or bronzed appearance while treated skin renews.

Research comparing fractional CO₂ with hybrid fractional resurfacing has found longer healing with CO₂ in some settings, but this should not be converted into a fixed recovery promise for every protocol.

What Should a Consultation Compare?

A useful consultation should focus on the concern before the device. Assessment may include:

  • scar type and depth

  • texture versus pigment as the main concern

  • skin tone and pigment history

  • previous resurfacing

  • acceptable recovery

  • active acne or inflammation

  • treatment goals

The clinic’s resurfacing information notes that depth, coverage and intensity are selected according to the concern, skin type and acceptable downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Secret PRO a laser?

Partly. Secret PRO contains a fractional CO₂ laser, but it also includes RF microneedling. These are separate technologies within the same platform.

Is HALO an ablative laser?

HALO is hybrid. It combines an ablative 2940 nm wavelength with a non-ablative 1470 nm wavelength in the same treatment zone.

Can both treat acne scars?

Both may be considered for selected acne scars, but scar type, depth, skin tone and recovery tolerance influence treatment selection.

Does Secret PRO always involve needles?

No. A treatment plan may use RF microneedling, fractional CO₂ laser, or both depending on the goal.

Choose the Treatment Strategy, Not the Device Name

Secret PRO and HALO both belong in resurfacing conversations, but they offer different tools. HALO combines ablative and non-ablative laser wavelengths in one fractional treatment. Secret PRO combines fractional CO₂ resurfacing with RF microneedling, allowing surface and deeper treatment to be planned separately or together.

The right choice depends on what needs to be treated, how deeply, the person’s skin characteristics and acceptable recovery. If you are comparing these technologies, the clinic’s Contact page can be used to arrange an assessment and discuss which approach, if either, fits the treatment goal.
