VAMP is applied topically by our trained laser technicians straight after a procedure that opens tiny channels in the skin, under the medical direction of Dr. Gidon Frame. It's generally well tolerated, and most redness or sensitivity you notice comes from the procedure it follows.
Common and temporary
- Redness, warmth and mild swelling from the microneedling or laser procedure
- Dryness, tightness or light flaking as the skin recovers
Less common risks
- Contact dermatitis: an itchy, red or bumpy rash from a reaction to an ingredient
- Infection, because the microchannels leave the skin open for a short time
- Temporary darkening of the skin after the procedure, which is more likely in deeper skin tones. Settings and aftercare are planned with your skin tone in mind.
- Rarely, granuloma reactions: small, firm bumps that can appear when a topical product reaches deeper skin through open channels
When treatment may need to wait
- A known allergy to fish or fish-derived ingredients (PDRN is sourced from salmon)
- An active infection, cold sore or open wound in the treatment area
- Previous reactions to skincare ingredients, which we'll review with you first
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding, as a precaution
Normal healing or a reaction?
Normal recovery feels like a mild sunburn, with redness and tightness that ease steadily over the next few days. Contact the clinic on 604-261-9121 if redness or swelling is getting worse instead of better, or if you notice itching, a rash, pus, firm bumps, or pain beyond what you were told to expect.
Regulatory status. Injectable PDRN products aren't currently authorized by Health Canada. At our clinic, PDRN is used topically only, applied after treatments that create microchannels, in keeping with Canadian regulations.
