PRP Facial Rejuvenation

Uses a concentrate of platelets prepared from a small sample of your own blood to aid skin healing and skin-quality goals.

Your skin goals. Our medical guidance.

Understanding PRP Facial Rejuvenation.

You may know what you would like to improve without knowing which treatment to choose. That is where we can help.

At Anti-Aging Medical & Laser Clinic, we bring together medical assessment, a range of treatment options and personalised planning. We explain what each approach can offer and recommend care around your goals, comfort and available recovery time.

PRP — platelet-rich plasma prepared from a small sample of your own blood — is one of those options. It suits some goals well and others poorly, and knowing which is yours is the point of an assessment.

There may be several ways to approach your goals. The differences matter, and our clinical team will help you understand which options deserve consideration for you.

PRP This treatmentPlatelet-rich plasma prepared from your bloodSelected skin-quality goals; sometimes part of a scar-treatment planHow PRP Works
PRFA blood-derived preparation that develops a fibrin networkSelected fine-line and texture goals; evidence remains emerging
Collagen-stimulating injectionsA selected injectable material intended to encourage collagen productionSkin support, contour or quality, depending on the product and technique

These approaches have different benefits, limitations and risks, and no single option is universally best. Our role is to explain which options are relevant to you and why. You do not need to choose alone. Discuss Your Options →

Treatment options and technologies

PRP is one of several clinically recognised approaches to skin texture, fine lines and overall skin quality. It is not a fixed answer, and it is not always the appropriate one.

The option available here, selected according to clinical findings:

  • Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) — considered for selected skin-quality goals such as texture, fine lines and tone, and as part of a wider plan for certain indented acne scars; it is a skin-quality option rather than a volume one

It is frequently used alongside another procedure, such as microneedling or a laser treatment, staged over a series of appointments rather than delivered as a single session. Where volume, contour or expression lines are the concern, a different approach is the more direct answer and will be recommended instead.

The selection is a clinical decision, not one you are expected to make. Your skin is examined in person by a physician, and your goals, blood-related conditions, medications, previous filler, threads or surgery in the area, and healing history are reviewed before any approach is recommended.

Your personalised consultation

Your consultation is unhurried and centred on you. It is where trust begins: time to be heard, a careful assessment, and honest guidance before any decision.

We listen. Tell us what you would like to improve, what you have tried and what matters to you about the experience.

We assess. Your physician examines your skin and reviews the medical information relevant to treatment, including recovery and whether a treatment is appropriate for you.

We explain your options. We discuss suitable treatments, expected benefits, limitations, recovery and costs. If a combination is proposed, we explain the purpose of each part.

We agree on the next step. You leave with a clear understanding of the recommendation and time to decide what feels right for you, with no pressure to proceed.

What the consultation covers

Because PRP is prepared from your own blood and then injected, the assessment covers more than your skin.

Your goals, examined honestly. What you want improved, and whether PRP is the option most likely to deliver it — or whether something in the comparison table above fits better.

Your medical history. Blood conditions and platelet disorders, anaemia, anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication, immunosuppression, active infection, a history of skin cancer or keloid scarring, and pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Your face and prior treatments. Any previous filler, threads or surgery in the areas under discussion, because these change the anatomy an injection has to pass through.

What is and is not established. Preparation methods and treatment schedules for PRP are not standardised, and results reported in the literature vary. You will get a straight account of that rather than a sales pitch.

And what it costs to sit down with us: the consultation itself carries no charge. A booking fee is applied to reserve the appointment, which secures the time, recognises the physician's time and helps reduce no-shows.

What your treatment involves

A blood draw. A small sample is taken from your arm, much like a routine blood test.

Preparation. The sample is processed to separate and concentrate the platelet-rich portion of your plasma. This takes place while you wait.

Application. The preparation is placed into the skin — by a series of small injections, or applied in combination with a procedure such as microneedling, depending on the plan agreed with you. Topical anaesthetic is generally used.

Comfort. Most people describe the injections as brief stings with pressure. The blood draw is usually the part patients think least about afterwards.

Sterile handling matters throughout, because your own blood is being processed and returned to you. That is a reason to have this done in a medical setting rather than wherever it is cheapest.

Straight afterwards, expect redness, some swelling and possible pinpoint bruising.

What to expect, and when

What PRP may improve: skin texture, fine lines, tone and overall skin quality, and in combination with other procedures it is sometimes used as part of a plan for certain indented acne scars.

What PRP does not do: restore lost volume, lift or reposition sagging tissue, relax the muscles that create expression lines, or remove established pigmentation. If any of those is your main concern, a different option is the honest recommendation.

When change appears. Nothing changes on the day, and early swelling can briefly flatter the skin in a way that is not the result. Any genuine improvement is gradual, developing over weeks as the skin's own repair activity responds. It is the kind of change you judge from photographs months apart, not in the mirror the next morning.

Series and maintenance. PRP is usually planned as a series rather than a single session, with periodic treatment afterwards if you want the effect maintained. There is no established standard number of sessions or interval — preparation methods and protocols differ between clinics and studies — so your plan is set individually and reviewed against your response rather than fixed in advance.

What influences the outcome: your age and baseline skin quality, your own platelet biology, smoking, sun exposure, the areas treated, whether PRP is combined with another procedure, and your general health.

Response varies genuinely between people, more so than with treatments that add a manufactured material, because PRP depends on your own biology to do the work. Some people see a clear difference; others see little. We review your response together and discuss honestly whether continuing is worthwhile.

Recovery & aftercare

The first day or two. Redness, warmth, mild swelling and pinpoint bruising at injection points are usual. Swelling is often most noticeable the morning after.

Bruising can last several days, particularly around the eyes, so allow visible recovery time before an important event.

What helps:

  • Gentle, bland skincare and a clean pillowcase
  • Leaving the treated skin alone — no picking, scrubbing or firm massage
  • Daily sun protection
  • Pausing retinoids, acids and exfoliants until cleared
  • Skipping strenuous exercise, saunas and swimming for the period you are advised
  • Keeping makeup off freshly treated skin for the interval you are given, particularly after microneedling

Contact the clinic if you notice spreading redness, increasing pain, fever, discharge, or swelling that worsens rather than settles after the first couple of days.

Seek emergency care immediately for any change in vision, or severe pain with blanching or mottling of the skin — these are covered in full under the risks below.

Side effects you should expect

These are common, short-lived, and not a sign anything has gone wrong:

  • Bruising at injection points and around the eyes, sometimes lasting several days
  • Injection-site pain or tenderness during and after treatment
  • Swelling, often most obvious the following morning
  • Redness and warmth of the treated skin
  • Small raised bumps at injection points, settling within hours
  • Tightness, dryness or light flaking as the skin settles
  • Bruising or soreness at the blood-draw site on your arm
  • Feeling briefly lightheaded during the blood draw

Less common but important risks

These are uncommon. They are set out plainly because informed consent means knowing them before, not after.

  • Infection. Any injection breaks the skin, and PRP additionally involves drawing, processing and returning your own blood. Strict sterile handling at every step is what keeps this risk low — from the draw, through preparation, to injection. Signs to report are spreading redness, increasing pain, warmth, discharge or fever.
  • Persistent inflammation — redness, swelling or firmness at treated sites lasting well beyond the expected settling period, occasionally with nodule formation.
  • Prolonged or extensive bruising, particularly in the delicate skin around the eyes.
  • Nerve irritation causing temporary altered sensation in a treated area.
  • Skin discolouration at treated sites, more likely where bruising has been marked.
  • Scarring, rare, and more likely if an area becomes infected or is picked at.
  • Cold sore reactivation in people prone to it.
  • No noticeable benefit, despite a full course.

Vascular and visual complications. Very rarely, material injected into the face can enter or compress a blood vessel, interrupting blood supply to skin or, in the most serious cases, to the eye. This can cause tissue damage or visual loss, and visual loss may be permanent.

Seek emergency medical care immediately — and contact the clinic — if during or after treatment you experience:

  • Any change in vision, including blurring, double vision, loss of part of your visual field, or loss of sight
  • Severe or disproportionate pain in the treated area
  • Blanching (sudden whitening) or a dusky, mottled or purple discolouration of the skin
  • Pain around the eye, drooping of the eyelid, or new headache with any of the above

These are time-critical. Do not wait to see whether they settle overnight.

When PRP is not the right choice

Treatment may need to be deferred or avoided if you have:

  • A platelet disorder, bleeding disorder, or a condition affecting your blood such as significant anaemia
  • Anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy that cannot safely be adjusted
  • An active infection, inflamed skin, or a cold sore outbreak at or near the treatment area
  • A current or recent haematological malignancy, or active cancer
  • Immunosuppression, or a condition that impairs healing
  • Poorly controlled diabetes
  • A history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring
  • An undiagnosed skin lesion in the intended treatment area
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Recent filler, threads or surgery in the area, depending on timing
  • Active smoking, which affects healing and is worth discussing
  • A goal that PRP is not suited to — volume loss, laxity or expression lines

This is not a complete screening list. Your medical history, blood-related conditions, medications, previous facial procedures and healing history are reviewed by a physician before treatment.

How skincare fits in

PRP and skincare aim at the same thing from different directions, which is why they pair well.

PRP works by prompting repair activity within the skin over weeks. A good routine maintains the surface between sessions and keeps the environment favourable for that repair — consistent sun protection above all, since ultraviolet exposure works directly against what the treatment is trying to build.

We may recommend pausing retinoids and acids around your appointment, then reintroducing them once the skin has settled. Where a specific product would help your plan, we will say which and why, rather than sending you home with a shelf of them.

FAQ

Questions about PRP Facial Rejuvenation.

A consultation and skin assessment decide it. We look at your goals, your skin and your medical history, and explain whether PRP, another option or a combination fits. Not everyone is suitable, and we will say so if another approach would serve you better.

PRP is assessed and performed by one of our physicians — Dr. Gidon Frame, Dr. Sarina Govindasamy or Dr. Teri Fisher. Because the treatment involves drawing and processing your own blood and then injecting it into the face, both the sterile handling and the injection anatomy matter. We confirm which physician you will be seeing when you book.

PRP uses your own concentrated platelets to support the skin's natural repair, with gradual improvement in texture, fine lines and resilience. It works differently from the main alternatives. Hyaluronic acid skin boosters add moisture-binding hydration and may suit dryness, crepey texture or reduced elasticity. Dermal fillers add immediate volume and contour. Collagen-stimulating injections such as Sculptra or Radiesse give a stronger, more structural stimulus when broader volume loss or laxity is the concern.

PRP is often chosen for subtle skin-quality improvement, for delicate areas such as under the eyes, or by patients who prefer an autologous treatment with no manufactured material. Results are gradual and vary between individuals, a series is usually recommended, and PRP is sometimes combined with a skin booster, microneedling or laser, because each addresses a different aspect of skin quality.

Different goals sometimes call for different approaches. Where that is the case, we explain what each treatment is intended to contribute and the order, rather than adding treatments for their own sake.

Any change from PRP develops gradually over weeks rather than appearing after a session, and early swelling can briefly flatter the skin in a way that is not the result. We review your response at follow-up, once that has settled, and discuss whether further treatment is worthwhile. Comparing photographs taken months apart is more reliable than day-to-day impressions.

Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising can occur, so allow for visible recovery before an important event. Bruising around the eyes in particular can last several days. Swelling is often most noticeable the morning after rather than on the day. You receive individual aftercare instructions.

Using your own blood removes the question of reacting to a foreign material, but it does not make the treatment risk-free. Every injection carries a risk of bruising, pain, swelling and infection, and drawing and processing blood makes strict sterile handling essential at every step. There is also a rare risk of vascular or visual complications shared by facial injections generally. Autologous is not the same as harmless.

Any change in vision, severe or disproportionate pain, or sudden whitening or dusky, mottled discolouration of the skin. These can indicate that blood supply to the skin or eye has been compromised, which is rare but time-critical and can cause permanent damage. Seek emergency medical care immediately and contact the clinic — do not wait to see whether it settles overnight.

PRP is normally planned as a series with periodic treatment afterwards to maintain the effect. We cannot give you a fixed number, and you should be wary of anyone who does: preparation methods and treatment schedules are not standardised, and published protocols differ. Your plan is set individually and reviewed against how your skin actually responds.

We tell you honestly and explain the alternatives that may suit you better — volume restoration, collagen-stimulating injections, resurfacing or skin treatments, depending on what is actually driving your concern. There is no pressure to proceed.

The consultation is complimentary — there is no fee for the appointment itself, which covers your goals, a skin assessment and a clear explanation of the options that suit you, including the option of doing nothing. A booking fee is charged to hold your place in the schedule; it reflects the physician's time and helps reduce no-shows.
