Frowning Lips

While a frown is supposed to be a temporary emotion, the corners of the mouth sometimes droop down causing the appearance of a frown even when relaxed.

Frowning Lips

Overview

A frown is a unique facial expression that involves the action of many muscles used to convey a negative emotion across cultures and language barriers. A frown is supposed to be a temporary emotion but sometimes the corners of your mouth can droop down, causing you to frown even when relaxed. Fortunately, there are ways to help lift the corners of the mouth and bring back your happy face.

Contrary to popular belief, frowning lips are not caused by excessive frowning or being angry all the time. Frowning lips usually are a result of age, due to a loss of volume in our cheeks and elasticity in our skin. This means that the skin around our mouth loses the support it once had, and the outside corners of our lips turn down resulting in frowning lips.

How we can reduce the appearance and formation of Frowning Lips

If you have noticed that your lips have started to turn down and cause you to frown or look sad, we can help restore your beautiful smile and get you looking and feeling like yourself again.

Neuromodulators can be used to relax the muscles and help lift and smooth the skin and dermal fillers can be used to fill in deeper lines and creases reducing the severity of the downturned corners of the mouth.

Treatments for Frowning Lips

During your consultation, we will evaluate the cause of the downturned corners of the mouth and whether neuromodulation and/or dermal fillers are necessary. This will help determine the number of neuromodulators units needed to achieve your desired smile.

An appropriate amount of neuromodulators will be injected into the muscle downward pulling the corners of lips, and dermal filler may be used to fill any deep lines and creases.

Popular Treatments for Frowning Lips

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators such as Botox are substances that are injected into muscles in order to temporarily block the transmission of nerve impulses and prevent muscle contractions. This can lead to a reduction or complete elimination of muscle spasms. These medications are often used to treat conditions such as facial wrinkles, chronic migraines, and overactive bladder. The effects of neuromodulators may take a few days to fully take effect and can last for several months

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are used to add volume and fullness to the skin by increasing its natural supply of hyaluronic acid. They are injected into the skin to smooth wrinkles and lines, enhance facial contours, and restore volume to the face. The results of dermal fillers can last several months to a year, depending on the specific filler used and the patient.
