Often a lovely client will come in for a consultation and ask us what they can do for their lines or sagging jowls.

What is amazing is that same client can have a face covered in sun damage ranging from brown spots to broken capillaries and not say a word about it. After years of adding more and more damage to our face, neck and décolleté, we somehow stop seeing it. It’s like we have accepted that it’s just a part of life we have to deal with. It isn’t.

Cosmetic technology has come so far so fast, that rejuvenating your skin is as easy 2 hours and about 4 – 6 days of downtime. Sure, there are creams that can lighten your spots or redness but you need to graduate to lasers like the Fraxel Dual or IPL’s (Intense Pulsed Light) to really get the job done right.

How much will you spend?

If we combine say, a Fraxel 1927 treatment for pigment and an IPL for broken capillaries for redness, you are looking at about $1400. If you only have spots then the Fraxel will cost you about $1000-$1200 depending on where you go. Now remember, these are permanent improvements we are talking about here. As long as you are very careful with sun exposure, (using daily 30-50 SPF and no intentional sun tanning) your beautiful skin will last for years!

How does it feel?

At Anti-Aging in Vancouver, we apply a very strong numbing cream that is compounded especially for us. We also offer pain relief medications if the patient has arranged a ride home. For the 1927 wavelength side of the laser that we use for sun damage, medications aren’t really necessary, just an option. It feels like prickly heat moving across your skin and is over in about 40 minutes. Most patients say it was way easier than they expected.

Unlike the IPL, you don’t need to wait until any recent sun exposure has faded to be treated. We like to wait a few weeks if you have just returned from Maui but that’s it – you are ready to go!

What will you look like?

You will have a few days of very rough, bronze skin and your spots will appear darker. Then, by day 3 or 4, the peeling process begins taking your sun damage with it. You will be completely peeled by day 6 or 7 and your fresh, clear, soft skin will be revealed. You may have a pink hue for another week and remember that this skin is new and needs protecting, so extreme care must be taken especially for the first month post treatment.

So take a good look at your skin and consider some serious yet simple, rejuvenation.

This is all a small price to pay for the skin you’ve wanted for years.
